After completing a BSc (Hons) Microbiology degree at Leeds University in 1984, I was employed as a Research Associate for GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceuticals in Middlesex and the Cancer Epidemiology Research Unit at Birmingham University, where I worked on large community-based health research projects, gaining an MSc in Social Medicine in 1992. After taking a career break with my 3 children, I became interested in developmental psychology and completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Psychological Studies in 2001 and a PhD in 2004 (dissertation title: “An Evaluation of the Cerebellar Deficit Hypothesis of Developmental Dyslexia”). In 2004, I became a Lecturer in Psychology at the University of Central Lancashire and a Senior Lecturer in 2006, moving to Edge Hill University as Programme Leader for BSc (Hons) Psychology in 2010.
