Biography:
Prior to moving into education in 1995, Claire worked in commercial photography, communications design, video and film. She joined Edge Hill University in 2012, having taught previously at University of Brighton, Liverpool Hope University and Liverpool John Moores University. Her recent publications include four books: Memento (EUP, 2010), Popular Media and Animals (Palgrave, 2011), Beyond Human: From Animality to Transhumanism (Continuum, 2012) and American Independent Cinema: indie, indiewood and beyond (Routledge, 2013). She is currently co-editing The Routledge Companion to Film and Politics (Routledge, 2015).

Claire is Director of the Institute for Creative Enterprise, a Fellow of the Oxford Centre for Animal Ethics and serves on the Vegan Society Academic Advisory Committee, the Minding Animals International Programme Committee and is an advisor to the Animal History Museum. She is a co-founder of the Cultural Disability Studies Research Network and an Associate of the Centre for Culture & Disability Studies.
Claire is Consultant Editor for the Journal of Animal Ethics and on the Advisory Board for the Palgrave Macmillan Book Series on Animal Ethics. She reviews proposals and manuscripts for Palgrave Macmillan, Routledge, Lantern Books, Edinburgh University Press and Columbia University Press. She has also reviewed for a range of journals including: Popular Narrative Media; Genomics, Society & Policy; Society & Animals; Lesbian Studies; Anthrozoös; M/C; Journal of Material Culture.
