Biography:
Lee joined the Department in December 2014. He is particularly interested in the investigation of organisational life from the perspectives of those working in sport, in order to develop a more nuanced appreciation of the personal and social complexities of practice and practice contexts. Dr Nelson has also helped to initiate a novel strand of academic research that seeks to better understand the pedagogical use of video-based performance analysis technologies in elite level coaching environments. The findings of this body of research have not only served to advance scholarly activity in this area, but have helped coaching practitioners and performance analysts to give greater thought towards their analysis work. Dr Nelson has also helped to initiate a novel strand of academic research that seeks to better understand the pedagogical use of video-based performance analysis technologies in elite level coaching environments. The findings of this body of research have not only served to advance scholarly activity in this area, but have helped coaching practitioners and performance analysts to give greater thought towards their analysis work. Lee has supervised a number of PhD students on these research topics. In his academic work he principally utilises qualitative research methods and draws on the theorisation of micro-politics, emotions, and learning. Dr Nelson has published articles in a variety of high quality academic journals. Lee co-edited the ‘Research Methods in Sports Coaching’ and ‘Learning in Sports Coaching’ Routledge texts. He has also been involved in a number of externally funded research projects. Dr Nelson reviews manuscripts for a range of sport and exercise science journals. In addition to acting as a review panel member for the 'International Sports Coaching Journal' he is an editorial board member of ‘Sports Coaching Review’ and the ‘International Journal of Coaching Science’.
