My main research interest focuses on the interplay between emotion, micro-politics, and practice in coaching and coach education. My research work has been influenced by my 18 years experience of coaching football in the UK, USA and New Zealand. I am currently engaged in research projects that not only focus on how coaches attempt to manipulate the working environment and cope with the multitude of variations that exist within it, but which also seek to probe athletes’ subjective experiences of their coaches' practices and their performance development. A further related research interest is that of examining coach educators' and coaching practitioners’ experiences of participating in formal coach education provision. It is envisaged that such research can assist coach educators, sports coaches, policy makers, employers and administrators in their quest to provide high quality sporting experiences. I act as a reviewer for several journals that publish coaching research and I am also an Associate Editor for the new Sports Coaching Review journal.
