I took up post as Reader in Exercise Physiology in the Department of Sport and Physical Activity on the 1st October 2012 and was promoted to Professor in August 2013.
I have a PhD in Exercise Physiology, a BSc in Sports Science and Biology, and a Post Graduate Certificate in Higher Education (PGCHE). I am a fellow of the Higher Education Authority and a trained Peer Assisted Study Sessions (PASS) supervisor and PASS leader trainer. I also have many vocational health and fitness qualifications, includiding diplomas in personal training and exercise referral, and specialist qualifications to work with cancer survivors, cardiac patients, individuals with obesity and diabetes, low back pain, pregnant and postnatal women, older adults, and those requiring assessment and exercise prescript

My research interests are predominatly in clinical exercise physiology. I have ongoing external research collaborations with Prof Simon Rogers at the Aintree University Hospital (exercise for head and neck cancer survivors), Dr Bashir Matata at Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital (cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation), and Dr Felipe da Cunha at the University of Rio de Janeiro (post-exercise hypotension).
I am the Designated Individual responsible for the University's compliance with human tissue legislation. I have an interest in research ethics for human subjects and sit on the central university ethics committee, and previously was Chair of departmental and faculty ethics committees at my previous institution.
