Biography:
Lai is a Registered General and Registered Mental Nurse with a wide range of clinical experience from health promotion to community care. she has 20 years of experience working in various settings and culture groups prior to the academic career. For many years, she has been a campaigner for the use of psychosocial interventions (PSI) and family work for people with severe and enduring mental illness and had experiences of setting up educational groups for service users. For many years, she has been a campaigner for the use of psychosocial interventions (PSI) and family work for people with severe and enduring mental illness and had experiences of setting up educational groups for service users. Lai joined Edge Hill University in 2000 as a lecturer in the Continuing Professional Team developing contemporary courses to reflect current needs within the mental health services i.e. management & treatments for personality disorders,physical health needs in mental health, managing Risk in mental health, cognitive behavioural therapy and PSI for qualified and unqualified staff. Currently has a role as the Associate Head, responsible for the operational management of programme provision, and work closely with Programme Leaders. The role consist of assisting new developments, curriculum planning and ensure quality management is embedded into all programmes. She has special interest in CBT, PSI, e-learning, cognitive science, Learning Disabilities with mental health needs and clinical supervision.
Since 2009, Lai worked as an honorary therapist within the Psychotherapy Department, Merseycare NHS Trust approximately one day a week.
