Lesley Briscoe; PhD, MPhil; MSc; PGCE; RM; RGN;
Lesley is a Senior Lecturer in Postgraduate Medical Education and Programme Lead for The Advanced Fertility Practice Programme at Edge Hill University. Lesley has extensive experience working as a midwife, educator and researcher. Lesley’s research interests have a focus around maternity care and the current area of exploration relates to perinatal mental health. Research approaches have utilised qualitative, quantitative and mixed methodology to explore or test research questions around real life issues in practice. Lesley has presented about research and education locally, nationally and internationally. Her publications span nursing, midwifery, obstetric and paediatric journals. Her research experience informs her role as; a member of the editorial panel on the 'British Journal of Midwifery' (BJM), reviewer for BJM, 'Midwifery' and ‘The Advanced Journal of Nursing’. Lesley’s research feeds directly into postgraduate education and midwifery curriculum informing both Pre Registration and Post Registration teaching, learning and assessment. Lesley has a background as a Programme Lead, External Examiner and reviewer on Research Ethics, Research and Enterprise Committees.
Lesley is an associate of the Florence Nightingale Foundation and supports other midwives during their research and professional journey. Additionally, Lesley is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, which enhances her ability to link education and research to clinical practice.
Externally, Lesley collaborates with experts in the field at the University of Manchester, University of Leeds and Liverpool University. Independent organisation collaboration involves working with BUILDING BONDS Limited in Liverpool and the Liverpool Women’s Hospital. Lesley is currently external examiner for Keele University in relation the three-year undergraduate programme and the University of Central Lancashire in relation to the Masters of Midwifery programme.
